Douglasdale Dairy run interactive educational tours of their dairy facility which vary in focus depending on the age of the visitors, and are tailored to audiences ranging from toddlers accompanied by their mothers, through to university students and adults wanting an in depth understanding of the detailed workings of every step of the dairy production processes. The tours will educate audiences on the full milk process from the farm to the shop shelf.
Douglasdale Dairy has earned an international food safety certification, HACCP, which stipulates that every visitor who tours the facility must wear a white overall and a hair cap at all times. All visitors will be supplied with an overall and cap. The tour of the dairy facility includes a visit to the dairy laboratory where rigorous tests are run to ensure that Douglasdale Dairy products are of the highest quality and are safe. Then it's into the frenetic dairy production area where the actual workings of various processes are viewed as the raw milk enters the dairy to bottled milk that leaves the dairy.
Children then go out into farm yard where they get to bottle feed baby calves and enjoy arranged treasure hunts. On special request a hand machine butter making demo is included in the tour.
Once the tour is complete visitors enjoy a picnic under the trees, before departing with free Douglasdale Dairy milk products and gifts.
All tours of the Douglasdale Dairy facility are free of charge. The tours commence at 9:00am and last approximately 3 hours.
